“Ever wanted to party with Rihanna?” When Rihanna decided she wanted a house-party to launch her Fenty Skin enterprise in the middle of the pandemic, our team worked with an agency to make it happen safely. The house-party needed:
- a dance floor
- one-on-one conversations with Rihanna
- Special guests like Lil Nas X
- Thousands of simultaneous partiers
- Lots of fun times
To realise the dream of a stay-at-home house party, we created a virtual house. Audience members could dance, video stream or text chat and navigate through different rooms of the house using panoramic 3D video spheres optimised for mobile and desktop.
The web application featured:
- A Live Multi-user video dance party where you could queue up to dance with 4 other partiers
- Text based messaging/notifications across site
- An invitation system where partiers could join Rihanna in a one-on-one video conversation
- Live video streams, viewable across site featuring Rihanna, Lil Nas X and others
- Multiple chat rooms
- Selfie station
- Product showcase integrated into 3D environments
- A Cocktail recipe generator and featured cocktail recipes at the bar
- A Live-streamed music mixtape
The one-evening virtual house-party hosted more than 100,000 unique visitors – maybe the biggest house party of all time – and the approach was acknowledged as an originator for covid-era virtual events when it won a prestigious Webby award. Importantly, it was also really fun!
